Environment / Dynamic Elements:
One of my favorite parts of levels is dynamic elements. To me, this adds replay-ability to the level as it is not just some static thing I run around in but it also immerses me in the world and adds another layer of depth to the level. For this level I wanted to incorporate some sort of interactive elements added to the gameplay as well as fitting within the theme.
Crane: Raising the crane allows the player to get more loot as well as gives them two means of defense for the power core. The first is the climb the scaffolding into the rebar building which overlooks the core. If the player continues through the shipping container, they can get on top of the other half-built building. Sewer: If the player ventures out too far during the wave or gets overwhelmed by the AI and they cannot back to the core by walking back, they can drop down into the sewer. The sewer connects back to the power core (and has some loot and weapons down below). Video showcasing this here.
